A Petty Place is a bardic office attached to a noble. The bard who holds such a place can count on room, board, care, protection, a small sum as a petty purse, and employment for as long as she or he can continue to perform. Typically a lord or lady may only demand 5 days of service out of 7, but most bards in their petty place do not perform daily. Most such bards do hold classes for the unlettered of the fief and will teach counting songs and other basic skills. Particularly wealth nobles will have several and a Chief Bard on staff to keep them wrangled.
